Lockport Senior High School
Class Of 1967

LSHS Class of ’67 honors its Fallen Hero, Phil Stemper

The Lockport Senior High School Class of 1967 is honoring the memory of Phil Stemper, our only classmate killed in action in Vietnam, by making a donation of $1,000 to the University of South Florida’s Next Greatest Generation Veteran Fund.  The fund was created by USF’s Office of Veteran Success, which provides programs and services to help veterans successfully transition from military life to campus to a career.

The recently endowed Next Greatest Generation Veteran Fund is made up entirely of gifts from families and friends paying tribute to and preserving the memories of beloved veterans who served in wars of the 20th century. The fund will be used to assist veterans of the 21st century with unexpected and unmet financial expenses, and help them complete their degree.  The fund was developed under the leadership of classmate Steve Horton, currently the Coordinator of Veteran Support with USF’s Office of Veteran Success and previously the Associate Director of Athletics.

Our donation will be combined with another anonymous donation to create a total gift of $1,500. Of that amount, $500 will go into the operating fund for immediate use and $1,000 will be placed into an endowment to fund future awards for veterans.

Phil’s name, rank, branch and time of service will be engraved on a plaque displayed at the University and his photo and service information will be included in an “Honor Book” at the display.

Our 50th Reunion

We had a great reunion on July 28 & 29, 2017. It sure looked like everyone was having fun on Friday at the Elks Club and Saturday at the Country Club. Our 50th Reunion Co-chairs, Marsha Zimmer and Tom Seekins, along with the other members of the planning committee did a fantastic job. A special note of appreciation to Chris (Sully) Denniston who spent countless hours putting together the many display boards and the rest of the decorations for both nights, as well as the lion illustrations used in the directory. Her artistic skill and dedication to our class reunions over the years is nothing short of amazing. Thank you, too, to the committee members who helped Christine decorate both venues. I know that took a lot of time and effort. Also, a special shout out to Tom Seekins for providing musical entertainment on Friday evening. It certainly set the mood for the party.
